Does the Almost Chess Example violate the rule "No piece can attack another piece" The knight seems to be attacking the king.

In addition to the Chess example, is there an error in the sample answer key for Curve Data? I believe the given example answer key should be 22,13

The answer key (11,2) is fine. We need to consider lengths of horizontal segments in this case. Since the segment goes from center to center, the length of the segments in row 2 (for example) is 1, and not 2.

There is always this confusion in puzzles with loops/segments (length of segment v/s number of cells). So your answer will also be considered valid (22,13) but an answer like (22,3) or (11, 13) will not be considered correct. As long as there is consistency in the submitted answer, it will be considered correct.

TiiT

Pieces do not block other piece movements. This information may be useful for knight only. Pieces cannot attack any other piece anyway.

Oops! Of course, you're right. Sorry, my brain must not have been working properly when I posted this yesterday! Nice to know you accept either answer key.

I enjoyed this contest much more than I thought I would, since "casual" puzzles for me seem to involve more intuition than I care for (or maybe my intuition was good today). Anyway I especially liked the word puzzles and the curve data puzzles.
I think there is a typographical error in the word list for puzzle 20. The word PI sohould be PS. The S in PS worked in my answer key.
Thanks for fun diversion.

I think there is no typographical error. You probably got lucky there. The letter in R7C4 is indeed S. But it is part of the word SIPS and not PI. PI is in R6C2 and R7C2.

Oh that was a challenge. The Instructions looked scary and some puzzles needed lot of struggling. It was like competing with myself all the way.
Too bad I couldn't get the last one correctly done. Everything but one word was placed, but the last one didn't fit :)))

The word puzzles were good, but some of the casual puzzles just seemed like too much guessing/manual labor.

- Almost Chess - needed lot of pencilmarking and elimination. And it is better done at the start. It is difficult to do under time pressure. Maybe 2 and 3 needed more diligent effort and people could tend to guess. But all three can be done by logical elimination if you work with the right piece(s)
- Curve data - can be done logically
- Shortest distances - can be done logically
- Arithmetic square - can be done logically
- Letter weights - can be done logically
- Compass - can be done logically
- Pyramid Climbers - can be done logically

Very Nice Puzzles.
My favourites were the Almost chess 5 pointer,Meandering words and the Letter scrabble 11 pointer, for which i somehow couldnt place only 1 word, which was frustrating and ate up my time in trying to fix it.

Enjoyed the test. Thanks Rakesh for the puzzles
