Yes. Good to see Rohan and Gaurav in top 20 at the end of day1. And India-A at 6th in team standings...however, I did not see Rishi's name in the results.

Unfortunately Rishi had to drop at the last moment due to some personal reasons.

WSC 2010 Results

Individuals:

1st Jan Mrozowski (Poland)
2nd Jakub Ondrousek (Czech Republic)
3rd Hideaki Jo (Japan)
4th Florian Kirch (Germany)

15th Rohan Rao
20th Gaurav Korde
42nd Ritesh Gupta
59th Jaipal Reddy
96th Asha Siddaiah

Teams:

1st Germany
2nd Czech Republic
3rd Japan

17th India

We did very poorly in the team rounds on Day 2 due to which we plunged backwards. It was quite a disappointing show in the Individual rounds too on Day 2 except for my performance in Round 10. Gaurav finished a creditable 20th (despite his jetlag) and Ritesh an under-performed 42nd. Jaipal made some silly mistakes to finish 59th while Asha thoroughly enjoyed her first WSC to finish inside the top 100.

Overall, it was a superb championship (especially after last year) and the puzzles are worth having a look.

We really missed Rishi Puri (You can ask Jaipal and Asha ;-) ), with whom we wouldv'e made a wonderful team!
India is improving and hoping to perform even better next year!

Rohan any feedback about the playoffs?

Its good to see an overall improvement in the performances, although the team ranking could have been better.
But really a great performance, good to see that we are consistently having players making it close to the playoffs, which itself was a distant dream a few years back.
Now I guess its time we set our goals higher.

The playoffs were amazing! The top 4 from my earlier post qualified for the playoffs with Jan having an 8min advantage due to his higher points. The format had 10 puzzles in 60mins.

Jan started superbly by finishing almost 3 puzzles by the time the rest finished their first. The 4th puzzle was a Consecutive and Jan put the first digit incorrectly (A 7 next to an 8 without a bar) and hence kept going wrong. He wasted about 10-12mins...
Jakub on the other hand blazed through the puzzles. When Jan finally found his error and solve the Consecutive, Jakub had almost finished the 6th puzzle.
So, Jan was on his 5th puzzle while Jakub started his 7th.
The 8th puzzle was an Irregular Sudoku (which was supposed to be quite tough) and that turned out to be the decider since Jakub tried but seemed a little slow and got stuck a little, while Jan absolutely destroyed the Irregular in about 4-5mins to eventually overtake Jakub and win the title.

So, Jan Mrozowski wins WSC for the 2nd time in a row.

I'll write about WSC in more detail on my blog in the next two days...

One correction: The '9th' puzzle was an Irregular Sudoku.
