This event marks the first year WPF played a role in providing some of the puzzles. The number of obvious computer-generated puzzles was still too high in my opinion. The sudoku community in our country was given names of foreign participants about two weeks before the competition. International favourites included Japan's Yuhei Kusui (Yuhei Kusui), Rishi Puri (purifire) from India who earned 2nd place prize last year, another Indian Sumit Bothra and Malaysia's Farhan Hassin, the two former having shown great results in both years of BIST.
The absence of Thanakorn Sanguansombat, Tawan Sunathvanichkul (tamz29) and Frame Weerapat, all former finalists, meant that the favourites from our nation was reduced to defending champion Poramet Yosamornsontorn (hunterkok) and Thailand's highest LMI sudoku-rated player Sinchai Rungsangrattanakul (sinchai4547).
The four preliminaries round looks for the top five to head to the finals. Day one ended with a four-way tie for first place between Poramet, Thawat Mahancherdchuwong, Rishi and Sumet Juariyamark (MrLiang). Sinchai and Yuhei's strong performance on Day two pushed them into the finals with Poramet, Rishi and Farhan.
The twenty-minute final (samurai classic sudoku) was impressively won by Yuhei Kusui who pockets 5000 USD. Rishi and Sinchai takes 60,000THB and 20,000THB respectively. The wide victory margin displayed by foreign participants meant that the Thailand sudoku players must perform extra hard to defend their home trophy in future years.
