Posts: 102 Location: United States | In 12, is it a requirement to use all pentominoes (i.e. should K always be 8)? If not, should the formula be 2L - K? Otherwise we are penalized for using more pentominoes, and clearly the more pentominoes, the harder it is to have few black cells. | ||

K is not necessarily equal to 8. Minimize K + 2L. Wouldn't the optimal thing trivially be to just use no pentominoes? Also, can you go diagonally through a white cell, without any lawn next to you? 4: Can names repeat in the grid? 8: For the cells without slashes, the clues point to the longer direction (the direction with more than 1 cell)? Is it possible to make it more similar to Kakuro, so each square is slashed? | ||

Did you mean that a horizontal road segment and a vertical road segment can cross on a fully white cell? Are we talking about the 2017 April’s Opti-Roll puzzle; the road act same in here about crossing? | ||

Questions for 11: Could one also place two triangles in an entirely white cell, turning it entirely black? And if so, would you name the two trinagles as A and D or as B and ? Also, in what order are the tringales to be given in the solution code? If it's in order of the path (as the example seems to imply) then where/how would one put in the triangles creating a full black cell, as the path doesn't visit them ? If the issue was not the word "own", I understood it clearly. The path can intersect itself (the fully white cell can be crossed twice), but the path should not overlap with itself. | ||
