For Balance (#11 on the IB): how exactly is the torque of the main rod calculated with regard to weights on attached rods (i.e. the two bottom rods on the main example)? When I first read the instructions, I thought each subordinate rod's torque on the main rod was calculated by adding the torque of both sides of the smaller rod and multiplying it by the distance of that rod's fulcrum to the main rod's fulcrum, but the math only balances out if you instead use each weight's horizontal distance to the main fulcrum without regard to vertical distance: with the former you get 2*5 _PLUS_ 1(2*2_PLUS_1*4) =! 4(3*1_PLUS_1*3), while with the latter you get 2*5_PLUS_3*2_PLUS_0*4=1*1_PLUS_5*3.

For all the lower rods, you use the lower rod's attachment point on the upper rod. So it reads (distance 2 * weight 5) _PLUS_ (distance 1 * (weight 2_PLUS_4)) = (distance 4 * (weight 1_PLUS_3)).

The last date was 17th and it is 17th. Could this be extended?

Sorry, we don't know why the LMI banner says it goes to 17th, but the contest is planned to end on 16th, specifically 16th at 23:59 UTC. This forum thread and the IB both say 10-16 July.

The contest is over!

Thank you for everyone who participated in the contest! Congratulations to Freddie Hand (Puzzle_Maestro) to get the highest score, and to Endo Ken (EKBM) and Jeffrey Bardon (IHNN) to round up the podium! Congratulations for Kishore Kumar (kishy72) to be the top Indian solver as well!
We recognize the contest is hard. It was meant for 24-Hour Puzzle Championships, where even top solvers aren't expected to solve every single puzzle. We neglected to mention about this convention ahead of time, so solvers might come with a mistaken understanding and find the contest unexpectedly hard. We apologize for that. We hope you still enjoyed the puzzles, and you'll give a try to all the other puzzles you might have missed during the contest.
The Solutions Booklet has been uploaded below, with some write-up for each puzzle to help with any difficult step you might find. You can also find several bonus puzzles there, which we did not put into the test for one reason or another. Have fun!
