Location: India | Nikola - 2012-02-09 4:28 PM About puzzle 7. Digital Tapa I wonder why number 9 is given. Can we expect clues in bigger cells, 2x2 for example? In that case is it possible to appear two-digit clue? 9 will not be printed in the puzzle booklet.

Posts: 28 Location: Austria | I don't understand the rules of Tapa Guard. From the example I have a theory. I have repeated rule 2 in a way that it makes sense to me. All changed words are upper-case: 2 - Each digit represents a guard, observing EXACTLY that amount of blackened cells in the corresponding DIRECTION. A digit in an undivided cell MUST observe in AT LEAST ONE of the four directions.

Posts: 315 Location: The Netherlands | I also had a question about Tapa Guard. In an undivided cell, if there are equal digits, should each observe that amount of cells in a different direction? I used this in my puzzle, but I wasn't 100% sure if I was correct in assuming that now. At least it's handy to know submitting in the grace period will always increase your score as no puzzle is worth less than the total penalty. It can observe all four directions, or two of them, or three of them; but in any case it has at least one observation.

I didn't use that you mentioned clue type in competition puzzles. All undivided clue cell has only one digit.
