I don't understand between sudoku

It is little difficult to explain without the solution.
In "Between Sudoku", the 'given' hints have special meaning.
In row 5, between the given 1 and the given 5, only digits between 1 and 5 can appear.
Similarly in Column5, between the given 1 and the given 6, only digitsbetween 1 and 6 can appear.
In Row9, between the given 7 and the given 9, only digits between 7 and 9 can appear.
In Row7, between the given 2 and the given 6, only digits between 2 and 6 can appear.

So on ...

Does that clarify?

This is actually a brilliant variant. I can't wait to try this type in the test itself. It just needs a silly but trendy nickname like "Sandwich Sudoku".

David,
The image and the interpretation is too good.

It seems that it will be a very fun test !

Grids in the booklet are very interesting: I like particularly non common variations: "sandwich sudoku" and "No 3 odd/even in line".

I hope I can do this test (but I'm not sure).

Hello Karlson,

Welcome to LMI.

Can you please the problem you are facing with "Symmetric unequal sudoku"?
When rotated 180° R3C3 becomes R7C7, R1C6 becomes R8C4. So as per the rules, R3C3 can never have the same digit as R7C7, similarly R1C6 can never have the same digit as R8C4, so on ...
In general, RnCn can never have the same digit as R[10-n]C[10-n]
Hope the instruction is clear.

If you are facing problems solving the specific example, let us know and one of us can help with step-by-step hints?
If you need more examples, you can check the puzzle booklet of mock12 at http://logicmastersindia.com/mock12/mock12.asp

Also, what is the problem you are facing about "Antiknight sudoku"?

Hi Karlson,

I am trying to attach an example in image format to explain it better.

In First image, R1C1 (Row 1 - Column 1 ) is having number 8. The second image is the same grid which I have rotated by 180 degree angle and now the number 8 is in R9C9.

The condition in Symmetric Unequal sudoku is that same number cannot be in a cell which is rotated by 180 degrees. Hence, if 8 is in R1C1 it cannot be in R9C9. Hope this clarifies.

In Antiknight, a number cannot repeat in another cell which is at a knights step as in Chess. In the image below, R5C5 has the number 5 in it. Other cells which are at a Knight's step (as in chess ) from this cell are highlighted in yellow color. Hence the number 5 cannot be placed in any of these cells which are colored yellow. Hope this is what you were looking for in Anti Knight Sudoku.

@all

Thank you very much for the Illustration and help.

The language (my translation) was the problem in "Anti Knight Sudoku".
In german the figur called "Pferd" (translation in english = horse).

Symmetric unequal sudoku is now no problem also too.

I´am looking forward for the weekend.

Many greetings

Karlson

Sorry if I go back to the Between Sudoku (or Sandwich sudoku..)

the instructions say that "if there is MORE THAN ONE CELL between two given digits.... only digits inbetween the given can be used.
But in the example (and in Jan's explanation a few posts ago) the same applies also when there is EXACTLY ONE CELL between two given digits. for example, between 7 and 9 in row 9 the is EXACTLY ONE CELL (and not MORE THAN ONE CELL), and the digit 8 is placed. Is this just a coincidence? Could another digit (for example 3) be used? Or the instructions are misleading?

In the diagram, MORE THAN ONE CELL BETWEEN TWO GIVEN DIGITS occur only in row 5 and in column 5, while there are many more examples of EXACTLY ONE CELL BETWEEN GIVEN DIGITS.
Should the instructions say "if there is AT LEAST ONE CELL BETWEN TWO GIVEN DIGITS IN THE SAME ROW OR COLUMN????)

Please clarify.
Stefano

Stefano,

You are correct.
The instruction should be "if there is AT LEAST ONE CELL BETWEN TWO GIVEN DIGITS IN THE SAME ROW OR COLUMN, ......"

This was great fun, as LMI mocks always are. Special thanks to Janek, whose puzzles were exceptionally well-written and include some clever new variants.

Good luck to all! I promise you will enjoy these.

I'll second Ziti's comment that this was an excellent test with many great puzzles in these styles. Many clever work-ins and a good challenge overall. Thanks janoslaw.
