Posts: 45 Location: India | I didnot understand Distances Sudoku of Group 4. In the given example in IB, if we take x=4, then the distance between 4&5 and 3&4 is same. Please help me.

Location: India | adityasaraf007 - 2010-06-05 5:56 PM Aditya, check the distances in the shaded cells. I didnot understand Distances Sudoku of Group 4. In the given example in IB, if we take x=4, then the distance between 4&5 and 3&4 is same. In the shaded cells, d(4,5) > d(3,4) In the actual puzzle, 6 cells will be shaded. You also have to put 1-6 in the shaded cells. There may or may not hints given inside those 6 cells. For the original distances Puzzle check http://rohanrao.blogspot.com/2009/05/rules-of-distances.html

Posts: 45 Location: India | I am still not able to get it. I have understood that the rule for distances will only be applicable for the shaded cells. The problem is with this sentence. "Distances between numbers are measured from the centres of the cells." I am not able to interpret the meaning of this sentence. Edited by adityasaraf007 2010-06-05 8:05 PM

I thought to calculate the distance, we need to follow the path of the cells.

WSPC Organizer Posts: 739 Location: India | Please take some time out and rate the puzzles after you finish the test. Well, if you're not upto rating '42' puzzles, you can definitely give me some feedback here itself :-) Tejal/Rohan.

Posts: 13 Location: United States | Thumbs up to the organizers! Very nice puzzles! I enjoy this competition a lot. On the puzzles that I finished the score corresponded to their difficulty prety well. On one or two puzzles I had to guess (or at least it was faster than trying to come with some strange technique ). I am definitely looking forward to the next competition. Thanks. WSPC Organizer Posts: 739 Location: India | Congrats to Nikola Zivanovic for topping the test. An exceptional performance by finishing all puzzles in 129mins. Congrats to Hideaki Jo too, for being the only other participant who completed all puzzles. He saw soo many '6's, he decided to get 6mins time bonus too ;-) Congrats to Jakub Ondrousek for solving 40/42. He made silly mistakes else he too wouldv'e got time bonus. All in all, thanks to all participants for participating in the test and hope you enjoyed the puzzles. Do rate the puzzles or give me feedback here. Looking forward for more in future. Tejal/Rohan.

Posts: 45 Location: India | This test was so long for 166 mins, and in our area we have frequent loadshedding. I knew that there would be loadshedding during the mock. The electricity went off after about 80 mins from the start of test, and came back just after 10 mins of the finish. Had I been able to submit the answers, my score would have been 803. Thanks to Tejal and Rohan for this test. It was lot of fun solving the 6*6 puzzles. I would like to make one request. Please keep the duration of the tests short - maybe around 90 mins. Otherwise I am sure I would miss to submit the answers of the coming mocks as well.

WSPC Organizer Posts: 739 Location: India | Thank You very much parsurulz/adityasaraf/Nikola. Nikola, it was a fantastic performance by you. I was expecting at least one person to finish within 135mins (including typing answers) and you proved me correct :-) @Aditya This test was longer than usual, but it was based on a nice theme and suited well. Future tests will definitely be of lesser time.

Triplets & Triangles Author Posts: 63 Location: United Kingdom | Phenomenal performance by Nikola. I'm glad I competed even though there wasn't enough time left. Some of the puzzles took a long time to solve. Battleship Sudoku was tough, as expected. However, I also spent a very long time on Sequence Sudoku. Anyone got any nice logic for solving this one? Hope to rate the puzzles soon. Thanks Rohan. Good fun. David McNeill.

Location: India | Aditya, The future Monthly tests will not be this long. We'll be having max 120 minutes. Top solvers should be able to solve most puzzles in 80 minutes, and average solvers in 120 minutes.

WSPC Organizer Posts: 739 Location: India | @David Thanks a lot :-) Sequence was so easy! (The 6-cell sequence on the left has to have R2C1 = '1'. If you put R2C1 = '6', you will get stuck with R6C1. For the other 6-cell sequence, R5C5 cannot be '6' since '6' will be present either in R5C2 or R5C3. So, R5C5 is '1'. Then finish it! ) @All Solution Booklet has been uploaded. You can download and check the solutions.

Diagonal Vision Author Posts: 337 Location: Switzerland | Thanks for this wonderful tournament ! It was a very nice concept. You had to know lot of variants to be in a good place. Perhaps it was a little bit too long, but it was interesting to see how I can continue to be concentrated after 2 hours. I'm glad to see so many participants and very happy to be in the top 10. I should have better prepared some puzzles to be in my top form (like perfect cube, perfect square and distances sudoku, which were not so tough, but I could not solve them during test). It was interesting to see some tough 6*6 puzzles, and I like the fact there was a wide range of difficulty. Thanks ! Fred

Posts: 69 Location: Japan | Thanks for a great contest! I have a question about "EQUAL SUM SUDOKU" in Group2. Solution in "Solution Booklet" seems invalid since 3+3=2+4 holds in R4R5C2C3. Does this puzzle have a solution? Hideaki Jo

Posts: 45 Location: India | I don't have any other problem with longer Mocks. It is only that in our locality there is frequent load-shedding, and I don't have a laptop to overcome that problem.
